Do I need a guarantor every time I renew my Canadian passport?

Only under certain circumstances will you need a guarantor. In particular, you WILL need a guarantor if: this is your first Canadian passport; oryour previous Canadian passport is expired more than one year; oryou were under age 16 when your previous Canadian passport was issued; oryou are changing your name, date of birth, place of birth, or sex; or your previous Canadian passport was damaged; or your previous Canadian passport was reported lost or stolen
